Energy efficiency benefits everyone. It helps preserve our resources, helps delay the need to build additional power facilities, can help you save money, and helps Idaho Power continue to provide reliable, responsible fair-priced energy.
Customers often ask how much impact they can make to their electricity bills and their communities by participating in one or more of Idaho Power’s energy efficiency or demand response programs. The answer is: A lot.
Customers are responding to Idaho Power’s call-to-action by becoming familiar with their energy use and participating in Idaho Power’s programs; often with the results of a lower electric bill. Because of your participation in energy efficiency and demand response efforts, Idaho Power was able to achieve significant energy efficiency and demand response results during 2009.
Overall, energy efficiency program efforts increased energy savings by 23 percent over 2008. Customers helped to collectively save 132,443 megawatt-hours of electricity—enough energy to power more than 10,000 average homes in our service area for one year.
Collectively, customers who participated in one of Idaho Power’s demand response programs—A/C Cool Credit, FlexPeak Management (for commercial and industrial customers) or Irrigation Peak Rewards—helped reduce the demand for electricity by 218 megawatts. How much is that? It’s triple the reduction over 2008 and it’s more than any of Idaho Power’s natural gas peaker plants near Mountain Home. Peaker plants are used to help meet the demand for electricity when it’s at its highest on hot summer afternoons.
Idaho Power thanks all of you for your participation in their programs and for making changes to help reduce your energy use.
